Short answer
A section of an audio file can be cut out for free in a web browser by giving a start and an end time in hh:mm:ss. The selected span is decoded and re-encoded to MP3, so the cut lands exactly where it was asked for rather than on a frame boundary. Nothing is uploaded and there is no limit on the length of the source.

Trimming is what turns a two-hour recording into the four minutes worth keeping: the answer to one question in an interview, a ringtone, a single song from a live set, the part of a lecture that covers the exam.
Both times are given in hours, minutes and seconds — 00:01:30 to 00:02:15 keeps forty-five seconds starting a minute and a half in. The cut is sample-accurate because the audio is decoded first, so a word is never clipped in half at the boundary.
How to use it
- 1
Add the audio file
Drop in an MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC or OGG file.
- 2
Set the start and end
Type both in hh:mm:ss. Everything between them is kept; everything outside is discarded.
- 3
Choose the bitrate
192 kbps suits most material. The extracted section is re-encoded to MP3.
- 4
Download the clip
Save the trimmed file. The original recording is untouched.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write the times?
As hh:mm:ss — hours, minutes and seconds, each two digits. To keep the span from one minute thirty to two minutes fifteen, enter 00:01:30 and 00:02:15.
Is the cut exactly where I asked?
Yes. The audio is decoded before the span is taken, so the boundaries are sample-accurate rather than snapped to the nearest encoded frame.
Can I remove a section from the middle instead?
Not in one pass. This tool keeps one continuous span. To drop a middle section, trim the part before it and the part after it separately and join them in an audio editor.
Does trimming reduce quality?
The kept section is re-encoded to MP3, which is one lossy generation. At 192 kbps or above the difference is inaudible to most listeners.
Can I make a ringtone with this?
Yes. Trim the span you want and save the MP3. Android accepts MP3 ringtones directly; iPhone requires the file to be converted to M4R in iTunes or Finder first.
